Carbon-fiber composite pressure-pipe repair uses the fiber's high directional tensile strength, with epoxy resin fully impregnating the cloth and wrapping it around the defect zone to restore design strength. The method is in-service, weld-free — avoiding the burn-through hazards of welding.
The repair system has three core components: high-strength carbon fiber, high-strength filler resin, and a high-performance epoxy adhesive.
Workflow
- Filler resin levels the defect
- Saturate the cloth with high-performance epoxy and wrap it circumferentially over the levelled zone
- Apply multiple plies as designed; roll along the fiber direction to expel air
- Cure at ambient temperature
- Apply outer corrosion protection and back-fill
The technology is well-suited to long-haul oil and gas lines, urban gas networks, refinery and chemical pipework, and power-plant cooling water — anywhere weld repair is impractical or hazardous.
