Composite repair wraps a reinforcement material around defective pipe and bonds it with strong adhesive and filler to form a composite repair layer. After cure, defect-zone stress transfers into the composite layer, keeping it under the safety limit and preserving safe operation.
Three Effects of Composite Reinforcement
- Lower the stress at the defect
- Lower the strain at the defect
- Restore or raise the pressure capacity of the pipe
Carbon-Fiber Composite Mechanical Performance
- Tensile strength: 3400 MPa
- Elastic modulus: 2.3 × 10⁵ MPa
- Elongation: 1.7 %
The repair layer carries internal pressure together with the host pipe. Installation is simple, the layers bond tightly, and the work can be done while the line stays in service.
Safety and Site Cautions
- Carbon-fiber cloth is conductive — stay clear of energised equipment, or use reliable protection
- Avoid bending the cloth during install
- Seal-store the matched resin away from heat and direct sun
- Mix and apply resin in a well-ventilated area
- PPE for site crew is mandatory
